2PM: Jewish History of the Town of Islip by Mollie Sebor

Sunday March 19, 2023

Long Island has a rich Jewish Culture, and no more than in Islip Town itself. From decorated military veterans, to business owners and entrepreneurs, even an author who disappeared, there are many stories to be told about the small town nicknamed, “The Land of Misfits.” Join us as we journey through Islip’s history from the very beginning through the present day, shining a light on some of the “misfits” who have gone unseen.

A June 2022 graduate of Islip High School, Mollie Sebor has been a Girl Scout for over 13 years since her start at the age of 5 when she entered as a Daisy. She contacted the Islip Town Historian’s Office earlier in the year about a project topic for the Girl Scout Gold Award that would incorporate her deep love of history. When she found out that little was known about the history of the Jewish contribution to the Town of Islip, she decided to take on the research and writing of a booklet containing both a brief history of the Jewish congregations as well as biographies of nine notable Jewish residents of the Town. Mollie will be taking a year off from classes and will continue to further her research during the coming year at the Islip Town Historian’s Office.

In Person and via Zoom.
