The Weight of Memory: I AM BERNIE FURSHPAN is a deeply personal documentary that follows Dr. Bernie Furshpan, son of Holocaust survivor Moshe Furshpan, as he travels across the United States sharing his father’s harrowing experiences. Blending historical context with intimate testimony, the film confronts rising intolerance and reinforces the enduring imperative: never forget.
Dr. Bernard “Bernie” Furshpan is an educator, humanitarian, media producer, and entrepreneur whose career has spanned healthcare, marketing, entertainment, and Holocaust education. He spent 27 years as a chiropractor, building one of New York’s largest multidisciplinary holistic health practices and treating approximately 20,000 patients. He later founded Outta-Sites Marketing Agency, developing major campaigns and projects for clients including NASCAR and American Airlines. From 2011 to 2017, Bernie and his wife, Joanne, owned and operated New York City’s legendary Metropolitan Room, where he produced and presented acclaimed performers and charitable events. With more than 40 years of television, radio, and live-production experience, he now serves as Vice Chairman of the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County and Executive Producer of its hmTv podcast platform. A second-generation Holocaust descendant and sought-after speaker, Bernie is the subject of the PBS documentary The Weight of Memory: I Am Bernie Furshpan, which has received 16 international film festival honors and a 2026 Bronze Telly Award
