Interview with Rabbi Moyshe Kolesnik, Keeping the Galitzianer Flame Alive in the Heart of Galicia
Virtual at 2 PM
Rabbi Kolesnik is the rabbi of the Tempel Synagogue in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine formerly Stanisławów, Poland. Rabbi Kolesnik was born in Ivano-Frankivsk after his family was resettled east from Russia. After the fall of the USSR the building that housed the synagogue was returned to the Jewish community (1992) and Rabbi Kolesnik became the spiritual leader of the congregation. The Stanisławów district was one of the most densely populated districts with Jews in all of Galicia and interwar Poland. Now, as the only Rabbi in the district, Rabbi Kolesnik has responsibility for all the Jewish cemeteries and mass grave sites in the area. In addition, he has an extensive collection of genealogical and Holocaust records in his study. Gesher Galicia is currently categorizing this collection in order to make it available to the community.
