Speakers: Nolan Altman, Alexander Luis-Kaminer, Anya Morgulis, Yonah Paley

Nolan Altman is a past president and longtime board member of the JGS of Long Island. Over 25 years ago, a simple question from his daughter sent him -- in his words -- "down genealogy rabbit holes" that eventually led him to coordinate JewishGen.org's JOWBR, Holocaust, and Memorial Plaques Databases. In 2021, the IAJGS honored Nolan with its Lifetime Achievement Award, for his efforts to promote, volunteer and advocate for Jewish genealogical research.

Alexander Luis-Kaminer is a 15-year-old high school student from Montreal. His interest in genealogy began at age 9, when he opened a MyHeritage account. He has been researching ever since, with a focus on Polish, Belarussian and Ukrainian Jewish records, and he recently started indexing for JRI-Poland.

Anya Morgulis is Director of Education and Engagement at Temple Beth Israel in Port Washington. She has found that her students' exploration of their genealogy creates a meaningful connection to their Jewish identities and positively impacts their family relationships. Her own family’s journey from the former Soviet Union influences her focus on ancestral stories and the value of being a storyteller.

Yonah Paley is host of the YouTube channel "Genealogy is Fun." He focuses on using dynamic online strategies to improve accuracy and efficiency in research. With immigrant ancestors from a half-dozen Eastern European nations, he specializes in Jewish immigrants to the United States.
